Two to go in latest Big Brother cull

In yet another twist in this year’s Big Brother, two housemates face eviction from the house tonight instead of the usual one.

All four of the housemates stuck in the show’s ‘Halfway House’ are liable for eviction, though for the survivors there is the opportunity of redemption as they will be reinstated into the main house.

While being nominated for eviction is always bade news in the reality show, at least the news has alleviated the boredom of those in Halfway House exile.

Tracey, David, Kara-Louise and Shanessa have all been restless since getting the boot from the main house.

“I hate being back in here. It ‘ s boring. I don ‘ t think I ‘ ll be staying,” said male-witch David, obviously not confident that his magical powers will help him stay on the show.

However, life in the main house is far from stress-free, with Brian, Amy, Jonty, Liam and Ziggy concerned after being told by the show’s producers that they will have to choose who will replace the exiled four and therefore be up for eviction.

“I think they are going to be mad at me,” said Amy.

“After all, we have now put them up for eviction.”

The Bill

The BillIt’s hard to believe that this popular police drama, The Bill, has now been running since 1984 and at June 2007, three thousand episodes had been aired. It is set in the fictional area around Sun Hill police station and often features trouble spots such as the Jasmine Allen estate.

The early episodes mainly focussed on the plod (uniformed police) with PC June Ackland and PC Jim Carver , but was extended to include the work of the detectives and involvement of others such as the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) and forensics.

Like Casualty and Holby City, the twice weekly format of The Bill is popular with former soap stars from the likes of Brookside and Eastenders (there are 3 of the Eastenders cast in the current line-up). It is a serial drama with a continuous storyline featuring different aspects of police work. It has been  shown “live” on a couple of occasions which has shown how good the acting skills are (although PC Stamp’s lines are reduced in case he dries up or improvises too much).

Tonight’s episode was the conclusion of a storyline concerning the death of a model, Cindy, and an obsessive man, Larry Franks, who DC Jo Masters believes was wrongly accused of killing the model. Jo studies some video footage and hears a mobile phone ring and sees a handbag. As the phone does not belong to Cindy or Larry, the DC is convinced that someone else was the killer and that it was probably a woman.

During her investigations,  Jo is kidnapped and gagged by Cindy’s real killer. However, when she fails to turn up for work, her work colleagues, particularly DS Stuart Turner become increasingly concerned and begin a search for her. However the killer, Rachel Inns, is an “insider” and has been working at Sun Hill on the case as a Scene of Crime Photographer. She was also a close friend of Cindy’s and took a photograph of the model which launched Cindy onto a successful career (but Cindy did not acknowledge this).

With the help of Larry Franks, Jo is located by her colleagues and Rachel is arrested for the murder (but only after Jo has persuaded her not to shoot). This was a classic episode of the Bill with many twists and turns, but the correct murderer was identified at last.

James Nesbitt rumoured to be next Doctor Who

With David Tennant’s incarnation as Doctor Who set to come to an end with the conclusion of the next series, James Nesbitt has been linked with the role of the nation’s favourite time lord.

The Northern Irish actor, who came to national fame through his role in the drama Cold Feet, is currently working with one of the show’s writers, Steven Moffat, on the BBC prime-time show Jekyll.

With Moffat hotly tipped to succeed Russell  T Davies as the show’s producer, Nesbitt is seen as the natural choice to take on the role of the Doctor  in his 11th incarnation , with one source telling the Sun newspaper that the actor is a “shoe in” for the role.

Should things go as expected, he would be the first-ever Northern Irish Doctor, just as David Tennant is the only Scot to have ever played the show’s title character.

Currently, Kylie Minogue is with Tennant filming a Doctor Who Christmas special, though the pop star is merely making a guest appearance in the show.

Comedian Catherine Tate is due to be Tenant’s female companion during his final series in the role, replacing Freema Agyeman , who has joined the cast of Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood.

Heroes - One Giant Leap

HeroesHeroes, the popular NBC series aimed at 18-50 year olds is now in its third episode on BBC 2. It is the story of a set of ordinary people who develop comic-book type super powers.

In tonight’s episode we become aware of:

Peter, brother of a successful politician. He jumps off a high building and discovers that he can fly. His career-obsessed brother uses this to his own advantage in a press conference, claiming it was a suicide attempt. This causes a fight between the two of them.

Clare, a cheerleader who meets a nasty death after being raped by a boy that she is keen on. She awoke to find herself lying on a mortuary slab with her chest cut open and blood everywhere.

Hiro – who has a boring office job and believes he is destined for better things. He saves the life of a young girl from a truck, by stopping time and taking her from the truck’s path. He believes that he has seen the future and follows the storyline of a comic book which traces his every move.

Matt – a police officer with the ability to read people’s minds. Unfortunately this can be rather noisy as all of the thoughts come at once. He often hears thoughts which show of people’s unhappiness. It leads him to find a small girl locked in a wall, which in turn brings him to the attention of the FBI.

Niki- who is shown at the start of the episode burying a body and finds some ancient bones at the same site. She has her young son with her, whose father murdered the body she needed to dispose of. At the end she is stopped by the Police but it is to take her to meet someone.

Heroes is starting to tie up the various characters and bring them together, but to what end we don’t know yet. The destruction of New York by atomic bomb is portrayed in the comic book by illustrator Isaac and seems to be the point to which we are heading. The programme does move at a fairly slow pace but the complicated plot and super power potential may need this to set a base to grow upon.
