Corrie’s David accidentally drugs niece
Growing cannabis above Roy’s café, lying in court to protect murdering Tracy Barlow and being an all-round psychopath: Coronation Street’s Gail Platt has put up with a lot from teenage son David.
However, even she will have a hard time forgiving him for his next transgression.
In a forthcoming dramatic storyline, young Bethany Platt is to find his ecstasy stash hidden in one of her dolls and, mistaking them for sweets, ends up seriously ill in hospital after swallowing several of them.
Though David is initially reluctant to come clean, he eventually admits that he was minding the drugs for next-door neighbour Darryl Morton, to the shock and disgust of his family, a source of the show revealed.
Speaking to the website Digital Spy, 19-year-old actor Jack P Shepherd, who plays the troublesome teen, said: “I was quite excited because I’ve not really done emotional stuff before. I’ve done little bits but this is a huge storyline. It’s a character change for David.”
“The only way David knows how to get attention is by doing bad things. It’s the only time when people sit up and listen,” he added.
The drug-related episodes, which will be screened later this month, come soon after Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks tackled the tricky subject of teen anorexia
