Corrie’s Raquel to play Doctor Who baddie
Former Rovers Return barmaid Sarah Lancashire is the latest big name to be lined up for a part in the hit BBC sci-fi show Doctor Who.
The 43-year old actress, who found fame as Curly’s dizzy wife Raquel Watts on Coronation Street, has confirmed that she will be appearing in the first episode of the new series, due to be aired in the spring.
However, rather than playing the Doctor’s female helper, Sarah will take up the role of an evil businesswoman who fights against David Tennant’s character as aliens attempt to take over modern-day London.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be in Doctor Who,” she told the Daily Mirror.
“It’s a brilliant episode and I’m looking forward to taking the Time Lord on.”
The comedian Catherine Tate will also appear in the new series of the show, reprising her role as the Doctor’s companion Donna Noble.
