Celebrity Hijack fails to draw in the viewers
The much-hyped new twist on the Big Brother format, Celebrity Hijack, has so far failed to pull in the viewers.
According to immediate estimates, the opening night of the show managed to attract just 3.5 million viewers in comparison to the 7.3 million who tuned in to watch the likes of Jade Goody and Jo O’Meara in last year’s celebrity version of the reality show.
What’s more, around two million people switched off when the show ended on Channel 4, with only a relative handful switching over to the digital output on E4.
The BBC One drama George Gently attracted 4.9 million viewers while Cold Blood on ITV was watched by 3.7 million.
In the first night of the show, Big Brother star Matt Lucas became the first celebrity to try his hand at being Big Brother, commanding the Scottish Youth Parliament chairman John Loughton to obey his every word for the duration of the evening.
On the back of the opening night, Loughton has become the bookmaker’s favourite to walk away with the £50,000 top prize.
