Eastenders (A Look Back At Older Episodes)
While Eastenders continues to go from strength to strength, with the show not only popular in the UK but also areas of the world such as the US, can you remember how it used to be before the new stars of today arrived? Can you remember Ian Beale as a young man? Do you remember Zoe?
UK Gold offers an interesting and enjoyable look back in time to the days of stars gone by, Eastenders of old is literally pure gold!
Tonight’s episode sees Zoe’s plans for the future thrown into chaos by the return of some old friends, Sam Mitchell getting into the mix and Pat trying to encourage Dot’s driving ambitions with hilarious consequences. When you consider that Ian Beale is now the longest serving member of the cast it is interesting to see how his character has developed over the years. Constantly under pressure and under appreciated he has had more than his fair share of troubles – although the time his wife Cindy arranged for a hit man to kill him will take some topping!
No matter how far you look back in the history of Eastenders, the Queen Vic has always been central to everything which was going on, the fights, the arguments, the scandal and laughter. When you also consider that both Emmerdale and Coronation Street are also centred on their “local”, this perhaps says something about the UK frame of mind and the entertainment which we enjoy!
Eastenders has been written off by so called experts on a number of occasions but 23 years later it is still going as strong as ever, and the battle with age old competitor Coronation Street is still in full swing. It would be interesting to see just how much the BBC has made out of selling Eastenders overseas, because by all accounts there is substantial interest from many areas of the globe.
