Spring Awakening: The Movie

It’s a far cry from a sloppy Abba-Fest but rumour has it that Joseph “McG” McGinty Nichol (Director of Charlie’s Angels and the eagerly anticipated Terminator Salvation) is planning to seduce Spring Awakening from the stage to the silver screen.

The controversial musical is a complete departure from the likes of morose Mamma Mia and Chicago‘s faux-striptease chicanery. As a host of nubile young teens sing about thought-provoking subjects such as rape, abuse, abortion and suicide – this is not something your granny would enjoy. Which begs the question – just how will it translate into cinematic splendour?

As McG has made his name with high-kicking, face-melting explosion-fests, how will he tone down his Bay-esque style for this multi-layered drama? We’ll just have to wait and see…
