Quirky goth director, Tim Burton, has finally released a first look at his typically stylistic take on Alice in Wonderland, which is slated for release in 2010.

The fantastic pictures show how some of the zany characters from Burton’s Wonderland will look including Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter’s Red Queen and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen.

Producer Richard Zanuck describes the director’s vision of the Lewis Carroll classic as “Burton-ized” and, from the look of these stills, the film should follow in Burton’s visually surreal take on the world.

Many elements from the book are familiar, from the enigmatic Caterpillar (Alan Rickman) to the fierce Jabberwock (Christopher Lee) but the story has been altered slightly with Alice, now 17, attending a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types.

Rather than be proposed to Alice runs off, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn’t remember.

Expect Burton’s typical ghoulishness as Helena Bonham Carter’s Red Queen, whose favorite retort is “Off with their heads,” has a moat filled with bobbing noggins.

We can’t bloody wait…
