Aguilera and Cher to Star in Burlesque Movie
Burlesque is so hot right now what with even D-list celebrities espousing its artistic importance and every Portacabin the length of the country seemingly playing host to a local revue, it was only a matter of time before it reared it’s shapely… er, rear, on screen.
And perhaps because Burlesque’s position on the hotometer is just so incendiary right now, the makers of a new film about the teasing, tassled dance-form thought it best to add a bit of a dampner to proceedings – in the form of aging big gob and one time fishnet fan, Cher.
The Oscar-winning actress, whose last movie was the 2003 Farrelly Brothers’ comedy, Stuck On You, is signed up to star alongside Christina Aguilera in a new musical called, surprisingly, Burlesque.
According to early reports Cher will play Tess, a former dancer who runs a neo-burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard. When a young girl (Aguilera) with promise (great arse and a nice rack) walks into her bar, Tess gives her a job and a chance show the world what she’s made of – in every sense of the word.
As scornful as this reviewer sounds about the project, have no doubt I’ll be there in the first week on the front row with a fist full of money.
