Smurf Movie In The Works

From the idiot that brought talking Chihuahuas to the big screen comes a bit of a blue movie.

Raja Gosnell who made Beverly Hills Chihuahua and the Scooby Doo movies (why is this man still alive?) has been slated to make a big movie with the little Smurfs.

Likely to be led by one of the greatest leaders in living memory, Papa Smurf, the movie is to be a mix of live action and animation. Though we try and scrub our brains to get rid of the Smurf song that entered the charts a while back, it is expected that the movie will be a huge success as this is the Smurfs first big screen outing.

As far as casting goes, there are only rumours of the evil villain Gargamel being played by Jon Lithgow from 3rd Rock from the Sun.

The project is planned as the first in a trilogy but the future of the series will depend heavily on its success (we saw what happened to The Golden Compass). Production on the movie is expected to begin this autumn in New York and has a release date of December 2010 in 2D and 3D.
