Half-Blood Prince Already Breaking Records
The sixth installment of the Potter series Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has barely been out for 24 hours but has already broken records.
Its 12:01 midnight screenings in the US took a whopping $22.2million, the largest sum taken on an opening of that kind.
Paling in comparison are The Dark Knight, opening with $18m, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith ($17m) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ($16m).
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix also opened in midnight slots in 2007, taking $12m and going on to gross $139.7m in its first five-days.
If Half-Blood Prince continues to outperform its predecessor to such an extent, this could be the biggest UK opening weekend of all time by quite a margin.
