Michael Jackson Lives On In Film

The crushingly inevitable Michael Jackson Movie – a farewell piece cobbled from his This Is It concert rehearsal footage – has been picked up by Sony pictures.

Constructed from 80 hours of material, the feature is tipped to be directed by Kenny Ortega. The man responsible for the High School Musical series took it upon himself to record what were effectively the star’s final performances, and is free after recently completing the third installment of the High School series.

Sony are expected to pick up the $50 million bill for worldwide rights to the material, as AEG Entertainment attempt to cut their losses after the King of Pop died in Los Angeles last month.

The footage, which was originally intended as bonus material for the shows DVD release, will now be interwoven with versions of Jackson’s videos which were shot especially for airing at the concerts.

Sources expect this very tidy piece of business from Sony to hit screens by the end of the year.
