If you enjoyed Peter Jackson’s King Kong then you may be interested to know that the giant ape will soon return to the big screen.

But this time there’ll be no hot young actresses in torn dresses, instead it’s going to be a prequel story.

Spirit Pictures have bought the rights to a book about the apes’ adventures that was published around the time of the 2005 movie. The book, ‘Kong: King of Skull Island’, was written by Joe DeVito and Brad Strickland and follows Kong as he struggles for leadership over other monsters on the cranium shaped island.

The movie is set to use Robert Zemeckis’ motion capture techniques but currently has no director attached. Though Jackson’s Kong had mixed reviews it did manage to get an 83% fresh rating on rottentomatoes.com, we can’t help but wonder, haven’t we had enough of giant apes?

Or is the new Kong movie just one of the increasing numbers of above average/giant monster movies that seem to be making a comeback?
