Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer are reported to have signed up Rob Marshall to direct Pirates of the Caribbean 4.

After Gore Verbinski jumped-ship, some of us thought that producers may decide to can the fourth film in the series.

Silly us! Of course it looks like Johnny Depp will donning his pirates hat once more before he moves on to work on The Lone Ranger.

Marshall, who is best known for Chicago and the less successful adaptation, Memoirs of a Geisha, is close to finalising a deal to take the cash-cow back to sea.

Many fans might be left questioning his action credentials – he hasn’t made any notable action films at all – but let us not forget the eyebrows raised when Verbinski got the original gig.

Orlando Bloom has wisely confirmed that he will not be appearing in the fourth film, and some fans might question the value of a further addition to the series.

Wasn’t the third one called At World’s End?
