Chan & Li Star In Chinese Revolution Epic
It seems that when the Chinese government asks you to appear in a film to mark the 60th anniversary of the country’s communist revolution, refusal is not an opxtion.
Actors Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Zhang Ziyi and Stephen Chow all have roles in Jian Guo Da Ye, (The Founding of a Republic) alongside directors Chen Kaige and John Woo.
The film will be released in China on September 17 ahead of the anniversary itself on October 1.
However, from the trailers it seems the stars will have nominal roles and their casting may simply be part of a dastardly government ploy to attract a more youthful audience to screenings.
Outsiders are also tipping the movie to rival Braveheart in the historical inaccuracy stakes as it has been funded by the state – so bad news for history geeks, but good news for film fans.
For those who simply can’t wait for some hapless interpreter to sort out the subtitles, here’s the Chinese trailer – let the fact shredding commence.
