fantastic-mr-foxThe 53rd London Film Festival should start with a bang tonight, as George Clooney and Meryl Streep are due to appear on the red carpet ahead of the world premiere of Fantastic Mr Fox.

We knew the ER star was a silver fox, but apparently Wes Anderson decided he was perfect for the lead role in his stop-motion animated film based on the novel by Roald Dahl.

Meryl Streep – who has apparently taken a couple of weeks off from her relentless quest to amass the most academy awards in the history of time – provides the vocals for his wife, Mrs Fox.

The film also has roles for a number of other stars, including Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Willem Dafoe and Michael Gambon, many of whom are also scheduled to appear tonight.

Director, Wes Anderson has altered the plot of the popular children’s classic substantially, but has received a nod of approval from the Mr Dahl’s wife, as she believed it to be in line with what her late husband might have enjoyed.

I bet the cheque didn’t do any harm either…

The Times BFI London Film Festival runs from October 14-29. For all the latest on the festival click here to visit the BFI website.

Some of the highlights include Nowhere Boy, the story of John Lennon’s teenage years. Steven Soderbergh’s latest film, The Informant, starring Matt Damon, and White Material, the latest piece from highly acclaimed director Clare Denis.
