Paranormal Activity Tops US Box Office
The reign of the scary movie is back.
Psychological-horror film Paranormal Activity took the top spot at the US box office this weekend, grossing an estimated $22 million, followed closely by Saw VI.
This nightmare has proven a dream come true for Paramount. Despite the ultra low-budget and fewer than 2,000 screening locations, the underdog thriller grossed more than $62 million domestically in its fifth week in release, which is a phenomena of its own.
The long-running horror franchise, Saw VI, came in second with $14.8 million. Then there is The Stepfather at number seven and Zombieland at 10, if you consider those frightening.
It seems horror films are on the up and up, with Paranormal Activity paving the way.
