hughThe Oscar hosting buzz has begun.

But bets are off for Hugh Jackman, whom Variety reports has quietly declined the job within the past few weeks.

The Broadway thesp gave a praiseworthy hosting performance in February, under the baton of producer Laurence Mark and exec producer Bill Condon. Now currently starring with Daniel Craig in the drama, “A Steady Rain,” Jackman has decided not to helm the Oscars two years in a row. Next in line is “The Real Steel,” the Shawn Levy-directed DreamWorks drama scheduled for production in spring.

Meanwhile, the search is still on for a Jackman-esque Academy front person. Will it be Neil Patrick Harris, Stephen Colbert, Robert Pattinson? Let’s hope not.

The 82nd annual Academy Awards, to be held March 7, will be produced by Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman.
