BsingerBryan Singer has signed up to direct the next instalment of the X-Men franchise.

The script, penned by OC/Chuck creator Josh Schwarz will see a young Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Storm and Iceman and their time as students at Professor X’s school.

Signer’s been reported to have been attached to the project for some time given his previous credits as the director of the first two films, but speaking to myspace.com he appeared to confirm the rumour.

“I’m ramping up to do a movie called Jack The Giant Killer at Warner Bros, and I just yesterday signed a deal to do an X-Men: First Class Origins picture, which is kind of cool. I’m very excited.”

Marvel haven’t confirmed anything yet but with Singer’s word on the matter, surely that’s only a formality.

Perhaps he can finally pull the franchise’s socks up after the disappointing X-Men 3 and lacklustre X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
