sinestro markLantern-jawed Victorian sleuth botherer Mark Strong is lined up to play Sinestro, the arch-nemesis of The Green Lantern in the new movie.

Jackie Earle Haley who played the unwashed sociopath vigilante Rorschach in the Watchmen movie was previously rumoured to be up for the role but director Martin Campbell has flatly denied the rumour.

Speaking to MTV, Campbell said, “That’s completely wrong,”

“Someone told me that this morning and I’d never heard it before in my life.”

With the Haley rumour out of the way Campbell said that he had someone else in mind for the role,

“We’re in negotiations with Mark Strong to play Sinestro,” he says. “He’s not only a wonderful actor but he looks very like Sinestro.”

Not sure if Mark Strong would be pleased with that or not but Campbell does have a point, the resemblance is uncanny.

Strong was last seen as Lord Blackwood (not Richard) in Sherlock Holmes, he’s playing Sir Godfrey in the upcoming Ridley Scott helmed Robin Hood, Mafioso Frank D’Amico in the forthcoming superhero movie Kick Ass and Matai Shang in the adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs classic, John Carter of Mars.

If he keeps this number of villainous parts up, he’s going to overtake the dark lord himself, Gary Oldman (although Oldman recently pulled one back as Carnegie in The Book Of Eli).
