Sony Confirm Spider-Man’s Webb
Marc Webb, the director of brilliant indie rom com (500) Days Of Summer has been confirmed as the director of Spider Man 4.
We reported previously that he was among the frontrunners for the appointment which also saw James Cameron, David Fincher and Wes Anderson on the same list.
“This is a dream come true and I couldn’t be more aware of the challenge, responsibility, or opportunity. Sam Raimi’s virtuoso rendering of Spider-Man is a humbling precedent to follow and build upon,” said Webb in a statement.
“The first three films are beloved for good reason. But I think the Spider-Man mythology transcends not only generations but directors as well. I am signing on not to ‘take over’ from Sam. That would be impossible. Not to mention arrogant. I’m here because there’s an opportunity for ideas, stories, and histories that will add a new dimension, canvas, and creative voice to Spider-Man.”
Sounds good to us. Webb knows how to direct stories that involve young people and ass the new reboot is supposedly going to focus on the broody teen angst high school Spider-Man, this is perfect.
What’s not so great is the budget which stands at $80m – a paltry amount for a Hollywood film. I mean, just the other day, I found $35m down the back of the sofa.
