Kathryn Bigelow To Direct TV Series
Kathryn Bigelow, the director of the Oscar Nominated war drama The Hurt Locker, has signed up to direct a pilot for a new show on HBO called The Miraculous Year.
It’ll feature a family centred around a charismatic but self-destructive broadway composer. Hmm…interesting – The Sopranos: The Musical then? Written by John Logan, the writer of Gladiator and The Aviator, (both of which received Oscar nominations for Best Screenplay) this will be more light-hearted stuff.
And while Bigelow does have TV experience, it’s usually been grittier fare along the lines of brilliant The Wire precursor Homicide: Life On The Street.
The pilot’s being shot later this year and HBO will decide whether or not it wants to proceed, but surely it’s a no-brainer – a two-time Oscar nominated screenwriter and Oscar nominated director (and by then possible first female winner) working together on the small screen – surely unless it’s Eldorado: The Return it’ll get a commission.
