Oscar Producers Pull Sacha Baron Cohen Skit

sacha300The list of controversial figures banned from this year’s Oscars ceremony grew today as Academy bosses decided to cancel Sacha Baron Cohen’s scheduled appearance at the prize-giving.

The star of Borat was slated to present an award with Ben Stiller, but organisers got cold feet at the prospect of the British satirist offending James Cameron.

Sources suggest that Cohen was to have posed as a blue-skinned female Na’vi from Avatar, while Stiller translated her speech. The skit was to end with the Na’vi claiming to be pregnant with the love child of director James Cameron.

“Let’s just say that Cameron isn’t known to be, shall we say, self-deprecating,” an insider told New York magazine as the Academy moved to block the routine.

Cameron himself claimed he had no part in the cancellation, assuring E! Online; “if they want to poke fun at Avatar, then that’s fine by me.”
