Tricksy Hobbit Film Is Delayed (Again)
Ahem. The Hobbit’s been delayed yet again amidst MGM’s continuing money troubles. We reported previously on the delays surrounding the film and Ian McKellen had previously stated that filming would begin in July but it looks like that’s been pushed back yet again till the end of the year.
According to Digital Spy who collared Andy Serkis on the red carpet of the Empire Awards, filming would be apparently pushed back to the end of the year while Ian McKellen’s website simply says filming will begin “at a time to be announced”.
Meanwhile, those hardcore Tolkien fans at The One Ring has confirmed the continuing financial struggles of MGM are having a serious effect on the film’s production – they’re currently trying to sell off their assets in order to avoid going under, so it looks increasingly unlikely that a 2011 release will be feasible.
There’s no word yet from director Guillermo del Toro and writer Peter Jackson on whether its true or not but the mounting rumours don’t look good. Watch this space.
