leonardo_dicaprio210Leonardo Di Caprio is being lined up to play FBI founder J Edgar Hoover in a new biopic written by Dustin Lance Black, the writer of Milk.

The project, simply titled Hoover will be directed by Clint Eastwood, who now seems intent on making as many movies about real life events as possible after Letters From Iwo Jima, Changeling and Invictus. It’s seems like quite a natural thing to do for Leo though, he’s already worked with Martin Scorsese several times (most recently on Shutter Island) and Steven Speilberg, so it’s not surprising that he’d want to work with Clint too.

Hoover himself is an interesting character. He was the first Director of the FBI and helped launch a new face of crime-fighting America but swifty came under fire for using the agency to spy on political enemies and anyone he didn’t like. What was that about power corrupting? His character was briefly touched upon in Michael Mann’s Public Enemies, where he was played by Billy Crudup, so it’ll be interesting to see where Leo takes the role.

But it’s still up in the air at the moment as Leo told Entertainment Weekly – “It sounds interesting to say the least. There’s no contract, no anything, but I’m a huge fan of Clint’s.”

How do you feel about a Clint/Leo combo? Cinematic gold in the making or box office poison?
