Andrew Lincoln210Andrew Lincoln (Teachers, This Life, Love Actually) has landed the lead role in an adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s acclaimed zombie comic series The Walking Dead.

Frank Darabont (the director of The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and most recently The Mist) will be adapting the series for US cable channel AMC. It was previously reported that the part would go to Johnny Lee Miller (where the heck has he got to these days?) but it now seems Lincoln’s landed the role

He’ll play Rick Grimes, a small-town police officer who helps a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world populated by flesh-eating zombies. He’ll join John Bernthal who’s already been cast (you can catch him in a couple of episodes of The Pacific as Sgt. Manuel Rodriguez).

“Andrew is an incredibly gifted actor. He has the presence and attitude to bring this character and story to life. We are thrilled that he is joining the cast,” said AMC’s Joel Stillerman. We couldn’t agree more – more Andrew Lincoln please.

And it’s not only the acting and directing talent which is shaping up well. Writer and producer Jack LoGiudice, who has worked on the excellent neo-Nazi drama Sons Of Anarchy will also be scribbling this one.

Expect it to show up on US screens in October with hopefully a UK import soon after.
