rachel_weisz210Rachel Weisz is being lined up to play Jackie Kennedy in a film about the former first lady imaginatively titled Jackie.

It’ll be directed by her fiance Darren Aronovsky and will mark their first collaboration since The Fountain.

The script’s been written by first-time screenwriter Noah Oppenheim and will cover Jackie’s life in the days following the assassination of President JFK in 1963. According to Entertainment Weekly, it’s said to show the First Lady at “both her most vulnerable and her most graceful” as she feels the full pressure of the world’s media.

Initial rumours suggested that this would be a Stephen Spielberg directed TV movie for HBO, but now it seems that a full cinematic movie is the way it’s going. While we’re all in favour of having Weisz in the role – she’s more than got the acting chops to live up to it – it seems strange casting a Brit in such an iconic American role.

No word yet on when Weisz will be donning those famous sunglasses. Watch this space.
