dunst210Kirsten Dunst is the next victim to have signed up to Lars Von Trier’s psychological sci-fi disaster film Melacholia. Given that Lars has a reputation for being a bit of a misogynist (see Anti-Christ), expect Kirsten to be left traumatised by the end of filming.

She’s the latest in a bizarre but excellent cast which includes Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, Udo Kier and Stellan and Alexander Skarsgaard.

It’s got a budget of $7million and is going to be shot in Europe. Von Trier’s been quite secretive about the plot other than it’s about people trying to cope with the death of a planet. The phrase “no more happy endings” also cropped up in a press release.

Given that Lars isn’t exactly sunshine and light at the best of times, it’s probably best that you bookend with something a little more cheerful, lest you jump off a bridge on the way home.
