Sherlock Holmes 2 Release Date Announced
Warner Bros. have surprised us by announcing December 16, 2011 as the release date for Guy Ritchie’s sequel to Sherlock Holmes. The film is yet to start filming, but is being fast tracked to start shooting this month.
Although the previous writers, Michael Robert Johnson, Anthony Peckham, and Saimon Kinberg weren’t commissioned for the sequel, returning cast members include Robert Downey Jr. (Sherlock Holmes), Jude Law (Dr. John Watson), and Rachel McAdams (Irene Adler).
As for the plot, Sherlock Holmes and his trusted sidekick Dr. Watson join forces to outwit and bring down their archnemesis, Professor Moriarty, who is rumored to be played by Brad Pitt.
Other films due to be released that same week are Brad Bird’s Mission Impossible IV and a new Steven Spielberg movie, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.
Next year is promising to be a good one for Warner Brothers – they will be extremely confident that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, The Hangover 2, Green Lantern (3D), Red Riding Hood, and Happy Feet 2 (which are all slated for release in 2011) will perform well at the box office.
