Warners’ Three Musketeers Canned

doug_liman210In the face of competition with Paul WS Anderson’s version which is being shot in 3D and released next April, Warners seem to have shelved their take on The Three Musketeers which was going to go head to head at the box office.

You might think that this would leave Doug Liman hanging a bit but according to Deadline Hollywood, he’s already got his beady eye on sci-fi thriller All You Need Is Kill.

All You Need Is Kill is based on a Japanese novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka and involves a futuristic warrior killed in action only to have to repeat his battle again and again until he gets it right. Sounds a wee bit like a sci-fi version of Groundhog Day – can’t really see Bill Murray making a cameo in this one though.

Unfortunately, this also sounds very similar to Duncan Jones‘s new project Source Code, which involves similar time loops, so Liman might not be out of the woods quite yet. Given that Warners reported paid a seven-figure sum for the right to All You Need Is Kill, it doesn’t seem likely that they’re going to give up on it very easily and will probably want to get production moving as quickly as possible.

Liman’s latest work, a thriller called Fair Game, starrting Naomi Watts and Sean Penn will be out later this year.
