gibson300Walking PR disaster Mel Gibson has indicated that he would be interested in filming a fifth movie in the Lethal Weapon series after rejecting the project several times in recent years.

According to an Australian website, the Aussie has entered talks with producer Joel Silver about adding another film to the successful 80s franchise and sees the project as the perfect way of rehabilitating his public image after a series of maulings in the press over the foul-mouthed messages he left on his ex-girlfriend’s answer-machine.

“They’re talking again,” an insider told What’s Playing. “Mel probably needs Joel, not to mention Lethal Weapon now more than ever, so I wouldn’t at all be surprised if it comes off this time and it could be a good move, that’s a mighty big brand name – it probably would help Gibson, professionally-speaking.”

Gibson walked away from the idea of a fifth Lethal Weapon movie as recently as 2008, but he seems to think a return to the maverick cop format could win him some fans back.
