Sean Penn Might Be A Genius
Sean Penn might be sinking his teeth into another biopic according to The Hollywood Reporter as he’s reportedly being considered for the role of legendary editor Max Perkins in a biopic titled Genius.
If you’ve never heard of Perkins, we don’t blame you (we had to have a quick flip through Wikipedia ourselves), as he’s not exactly a household name, especially not in this country. But he’s notable as being the editor who was responsbile for the publication of some of America’s great novellists including F Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway.
The screenplay will be adpapted from A Scott Berg’s award-winning biography Max Perkins: Editor Of Genius by John Logan and will concentrate more on his relationship with a young Thomas Wolfe.
It’s not the first time that an attempt has been made to get the story to the screen with a version that was going to be directed by Lawrence Kasdan at one point (who wrote the screenplays for Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi incidentally) previously in the works. But now it seems that Bill Pohlad, who’s recently worked on financing the award winning documentary Food Inc. as well as Brokeback Mountain will be taking over the project. He’s worked with Penn before (Into The Wild), so he seems like a natural choice.
