Stellan Skarsgård Lands Dragon Tattoo Role?
Stellan Skarsgård has confirmed that he is in negotiations to play Martin Vanger in David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – another film adaptation of the award-winning and best-selling crime novel by the late Swedish author Stieg Larsson.
“I have mate Fincher, I want to work with him, he wants to work with me. I have had a concrete offer and now we are in negotiations,” Skarsgård told Variety. “The contract is for between September to March, but I don’t know yet when I am supposed to start my part of the film.”
Skarsgård (Pirates of the Caribbean, Thor) would play Martin Vanger, a prime suspect in the 40-year-old disappearance of a teenage girl. Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) will helm the project with Steve Zaillian (Schindler’s List, Mission: Impossible, Gangs of New York) writing the script.
George Clooney, Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt had all reportedly been interested in the lead role of journalist Mikael Blomkvist, but Daniel Craig was officially confirmed as the lead in July. Twilight’s Kristen Stewart and Inception’s Ellen Page have both expressed an interest in playing Lisbeth Salander, though the role is as yet unfilled.
