Ving Rhames Signs Up For Mission Impossible IV
Ving Rhames has revealed that he will be returning as Luther Stickell in Mission: Impossible IV. Rhames will once again star alongside Tom Cruise (who signed on last month), while Simon Pegg is in negotiations to reprise his role as Benji Dunn.
While plugging new art house film Piranha 3D on Lopez Tonight, Rhames quipped: “Well, I’m about to do Mission: Impossible IV so, uh… cha-ching!” Rhames also revealed that his character was originally killed in the opening scene of the first movie, but his role was altered after he asked Cruise and director Brian DePalma why the black guy always dies first.
There can’t be many actors more badass than Ving Rhames (he entered his interview on Lopez Tonight wielding a chainsaw). Rhames has appeared in Pulp Fiction (as the unforgettable Marsellus Wallace), Con Air (as black militant Nathan ‘Diamond Dog’ Jones) and Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot (possibly Sylvester Stallone’s greatest work).
JJ Abrams has stepped down as director of the latest Mission Impossible film (though will produce it), with Brad Bird making a rare foray into live action having directed The Iron Giant, The Incredibles and Ratatouille. The film is scheduled for release on December 16, 2011.
