Rose Byrne And Oliver Platt Join First Class
More X-Men: First Class casting has been announced, with Rose Byrne and Oliver Platt joining an increasingly large ensemble cast. Yesterday we brought news of Jason Flemyng signing on to appear as Azazel in the Matthew Vaughn directed film.
Byrne, who has appeared in Get Him to the Greek and Damages, appears to have secured the role of Dr. Moira MacTaggert according to The Hollywood Reporter.
MacTaggert is one of the leading scientists on genetic mutation, and also a colleague, and former fiancée, of Professor Charles Xavier (having fallen in love while they were postgraduates as Oxford University). It is presumed that Byrne’s MacTaggert will be the love interest of James McAvoy’s Xavier. MacTaggert appeared briefly in X-Men: Last Stand, played by Olivia Williams.
Oliver Platt (2012, Frost/Nixon, The West Wing) will also join the project as a non-mutant character named the Man in Black. With filming set to begin within a month, more casting announcements are expecting regarding Nightcrawler and Cyclops, who have yet to be cast.
