Idris Elba To Play Alex Cross
Idris Elba will take on the role of James Patterson’s Dr. Alex Cross. The film, titled Cross, is to be based on James Patterson’s twelfth novel to feature the character. Elba is best known for his portrayal of Baltimore criminal Stringer Bell on The Wire.
Dr. Alex Cross has appeared on screen before, played by Morgan Freeman, in Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls. David Twohy (Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick) will direct the film, with Kerry Williamson penning the script.
In a move not dissimilar to the BBC’s shameless dismissal of Moira Stuart, producers seem to have decided to dispose of Freeman and revitalise the story with new (younger) blood. Elba has also appeared in American Gangster and RocknRolla, and will feature in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor as Norse god Heimdall.
