Tom Cruise For Mountains Of Madness?
Tom Cruise and James McAvoy are vying for the lead in Guillermo del Toro’s hotly anticipated new project, At the Mountains of Madness. An adaptation of the H. P. Lovecraft novel, James Cameron is attached to produce the film which will be shot in 3D.
After departing from The Hobbit, del Toro’s focus switched to At the Mountains of Madness, and with production pencilled in to begin in May 2011, Collider reports that the search is well under way for a lead actor.
Universal favour James McAvoy for the role, who will shortly begin filming Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class (playing Professor Charles Xavier). Del Toro, however, wants Tom Cruise to star in the film. Chris Pine’s name has also been muted.
Cruise and del Toro are believed to have met before to discuss a new take on Van Helsing, with Cruise in the title role and del Toro producing. But, that never materialised, though clearly both have a desire to work together at some point. Cruise’s next project is Mission: Impossible 4, which will begin shooting in October.
