John Oliver Will Do Absolutely Anything
The name might not be instantly recognisable but John Oliver is one of the most consistently funny things on US topical news showThe Daily Show. He hasn’t had much film experience so far (we’re ignoring The Love Guru for the sake of our sanity) but now he’s teaming up with ex-Python Terry Jones for Absolutely Anything.
According to Deadline, the film’s being kept mostly under wraps but producers Mike Medavoy, David Thwaites and Brad Fischer did reveal that the script, written by Jones and Gavin Scott, will “aliens, a goofy Brit, a talking dog and buckets of silliness.” It’ll mark the first time Jones has been behind the camera for a movie since 1996’s Wind In The Willows, so it’s definitely something to watch out for.
Apparently he’s also asked former Python co-stars John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Terry Gilliam to voice the aliens – we’ll see how that goes. If Terry Gilliam’s involved, the set will probably be washed away in a freak hurricane or the set will mysteriously burn down in the night.
