Goodfellas The TV Series?

goodfellas210We’re not sure if this is just wishful thinking but hot on the heels of Steve Buscemi’s HBO prohibition series Boardwalk Empire, comes the news that there may be a TV series based around Martin Scorsese’s classic gangster flick Goodfellas and according to Deadline, original Goodfellas screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi could be writing at least the pilot episode.

There’s virtually no detail at the moment which is why we’re hesitant to give this credibility but Pileggi, who adapted his own book Wiseguy about the life of real life mobster turned informant Henry Hill is mentioned as a likely writer. There’s also no network attached although Warner Bros. TV are said to be interested.

20 years on and Goodfellas is still as powerful as it was on its release and its complicated characters would be a goldmine for a TV series. But haven’t we already seen this with The Sopranos? And wouldn’t it be dogged by comparisons to the movie?

More details if and when the come in, but what do you think? We say “Forget abaht it…”
