Of of the highlights of the London Film Festival preview reel that we were shown last week, The King’s Speech tells the story of George IV (the father of our current queen) played by Colin Firth, who reluctantly took the throne when his brother Edward VII abdicated. But with the WW2 looming over the country like a black cloud, the country is looking to him to be a strong leader – difficult considering he suffered from a strong stammar.

His wife (the Queen Mother), played by Helena Bonham Carter hire a variety of therapists to no avail until Lionel Logue (Rush) arrives and gives George the courage he needs to succeed. It’s already taken the Audience Award at the Toronto Film Festival and there are strong rumblings about Best Actor/Best Supporting actor noms for Firth and Rush already.
