StephenFry300Stephen Fry has confirmed that he will be joining what is fastly becoming a glittering cast for Sherlock Holmes 2 this weekend.

The television institution will be playing the part of Mycroft, Holmes’ super-intelligent but more laidback brother. Unusually Fry opted not to reveal the news on Twitter, but on Danny Baker’s radio show.

Mycroft, of course, has always been written as smarter than his younger sibling, but far lazier and more likely to be involved in clandestine dealings with the government, occasionally reaching out to Sherlock for assistance, but never fully filling him in on the details. Suffice to say, we’re confident that Fry (who has played similar roles in V For Vendetta and Wilde among other films) will be able to fulfil the role.

Shooting for the film directed by Guy Ritchie is due to start next month. Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, Daniel Day-Lewis and Noomi Rapace are already confirmed to star.
