maggiegrace300News reaches us that the powers behind Twilight have settled on two new cast members for upcoming Breaking Dawn, scheduled for release in November 2011. Taken star Maggie Grace has apparently signed on to play Irina, who belongs to the Denali coven of “veggie” vampires. Sent to help the Cullens, Irina instead arrives and starts causing all sorts of havoc, telling the Volturi that Edward and Bella’s daughter Renesmee is a forbidden immortal child and thereby getting lots of people in trouble.

Meanwhile, the part of that forbidden/not forbidden/who knows daughter of Edward and Bella, Renesmee, has also been cast, with 9-year-old Mackenzie Foy set to take on the role of the little girl with the hideous name. And there’s an exciting secret behind the little tyke’s character (look away now if you don’t want to know it): she ages at a vastly accelerated rate, which explains how it can be that she’s already 9 when Bella and Edward are only about 12 themselves.

So, Twilight makers will be hoping that this interesting twist will provide them with the excuse for some Benjamin Button-style technology on little Mackenzie. The actress has appeared in the odd US TV drama, but is largely a newcomer to the world of showbusiness, so no doubt will be turning to the more seasoned Maggie Grace, best known for her turn as Liam Neeson’s kidnapped dauughter in Taken and the upcoming Taken 2. Breaking Dawn begins filming this November.
