alpacino300Godfather actor Al Pacino has reportedly signed up to play record producer, convicted murderer and general lunatic Phil Spector in an upcoming biopic of Spector’s life.

The music producer was responsible for such hits as the Righteous Brothers’ You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’ and Ronettes’ Be My Baby in the 60s, but suffered a dramatic fall from grace last year, when he was found guilty of murdering the actress Lana Clarkson at his house in 2003.

Spector proved to be a fascinating subject for the media to pore over during his 2009 trial, with his range of attention-grabbing outfits and wigs and bizarre statements. He is currently serving a 19-year to life-long jail sentence in Los Angeles.

At 70, Pacino is the same age as Spector and is described by his agent John L Burnham as seeing Spector as, “a very interesting character to play.” Rain Man director Barry Levinson will be at the helm of the project, with writer David Mamet working on the biopic’s script.
