richard-branson300Word reaches us that plans are in the works for a movie with a very unusual director-producer-subject combo. Terminator Salvation director McG and try-his-hand-and-succeed-at-anything businessman Richard Branson are teaming up to make a new film about Christopher Columbus’ discovery of America.

Branson, who has already helped out the Farrelly brothers with a movie under his Virgin Produced banner, has reportedly signed on to produce this Columbus movie alongside McG, who hasn’t yet confirmed whether he’ll be directing or producing himself.

The script of Columbus was written by TS Nowlin and apparently shows the explorer in a new light, which would be good news for Branson and McG, seeing as most previous adaptations of Columbus’ life have flopped at the box office. Remember Ridley Scott’s 1492: Conquest of Paradise? No, we thought not.

Hopefully Richard Branson can work his magic on the film and make it a success. Having seen his cameos in Casino Royale and Friends though, we can only hope he stays behind the camera for this one…
