Clooney Helms The Ides Of March
George Clooney will be leading a stellar cast as he brings Beau Willimon’s political play Farragut North to the big screen. The name’s now been changed to the more palatable The Ides Of March and will feature Ryan Gosling, Marissa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood and Paul Giamatti.
The play’s based loosely on Willimon’s time on the campaign trail of Howard Dean who was the front runner for the Democrat candidate in the 2004 election but eventually placed third. We’re expecting greed, ambition and treachery based on the title (it’s the day Caesar was assassinated – the 15th March).
Clooney will play the role of a governor trying to get into the Whitehouse and Gosling will play his long-suffering press agent, while Tomei will take the role of a news reporter and Wood will be one of George’s interns.
Willimon himself has been on hand to write script with Grant Heslov (who directed The Men Who Stare at Goats, and wrote and co-produced Clooney’s previous directorial foray Good Night and Good Luck). Production starts in February.
