Sheen300The former president of the United States, Martin Sheen, is currently rumoured to star in the next Spider-Man film if reports from The Hollywood Reporter are to be believed.

The septuagenarian is set to play Uncle Ben, the legendary character whose murder is responsible for pushing Peter Parker into his career as Spider-Man, a superhero whose hands ejaculate webs. The role had previously been inhabited by Cliff Robertson in the earlier Sam Raimi adaptation.

Sally Field – of Mrs. Doubtfire and Forrest Gump fame – will join Sheen as Aunt May though Field’s involvement remains in limbo awaiting further confirmation.

The next Spider-Man feature is currently scheduled for a July 3rd 2012 release.
