Spielberg Would Have Made Animated Potter
According to The Los Angeles Times, the legendary movie master was offered the chance by Warner Brothers to direct the film versions of JK Rowling’s novels, but envisaged the series as an animation, a vision which was not shared by studio president Alan Horn.
It is reported that Spielberg was approached soon after the books became a worldwide phenomenon, and Horn commented, “I did think it would be worthwhile for Steven Spielberg to direct. We offered it to him.”
He explained: “One of the notions of Steven’s was, ‘Let’s combine a couple of the books, let’s make it animated’, and that was because of the [visual effects and] Pixar had demonstrated that animated movies could be extremely successful. Because of the wizardry involved, they were very effects-laden. So I don’t blame them. But I did not want to combine the movies, and I wanted it to be live action.”
As the movies have been universal blockbusters and have spawned huge amounts of merchandise, Horn has no reason to regret his decision. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is out at cinema’s on November 19th and you can watch clips of the movie right here.
