dennis-leary300Our gossip-sense is tingling this morning after rumours reached our ears that Denis Leary is now in negotiations to join the cast of the new 3D Spider-Man movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Rescue Me actor, who has done little silver-screen acting since providing voices for the Ice Age films, is currently in talks to play police captain George Stacy, the father of the superheroes love interest Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone).

In all classic versions of the Spider-Man comics, this character dies whilst trying to save a child endangered as a result of the superhero’s plans to save New York. His death turns Gwen against Spider-Man.

In is unknown how much screen time Leary will get, but he is certainly joining an all-star cast. The film, directed by Marc Webb, so far has Andrew Garfield, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen and Sally Field signed up.

The 3D Spider-Man reboot is due to be released on July 3rd, 2012.
