Potter Breaks Box Office Records
Few of us will be surprised to learn that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part One has broken all records for the most successful opening weekend in UK cinema history.
The first instalment of the highly-anticipated finale not only smashed the three day weekend record, but opening Friday, Saturday and Sunday individual records. It would be a safe bet to assume that it is in the process of breaking the less prestigious opening Monday record as we speak.
The record was previously held by the most recent James Bond film Quantum Of Solace which ran up takings of £15,384,217 for its opening weekend and £4,957,917 on its opening day. Film cynics will point out that the two movies have more in common with each other than previously thought but Warner Bros. also clamoured to tell us that the new film also beat records for the biggest Saturday and Sunday takings, previously held by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part One took £18.3m at the UK box office over the weekend and over £5m on its first day.
