Wahlberg Disses Happening
In a startling bout of honesty, Mark Wahlberg has openly expressed his embarrassment at having starred in M. Night Airbender Shyamalan’s The Happening, the disastrous and critically derided 2008 sci-fi movie.
The subject came up at the press conference for Wahlberg’s new movie The Fighter, confessing that he had originally wanted to work with co-star Amy Adams on The Happening.
Wahlberg said: “I was such a huge fan of [Amy]. We’d actually had the luxury of having lunch before to talk about another movie, and it was a bad movie that I did. She dodged the bullet. I don’t want to tell you what movie… All right, The Happening with M. Night Shyamalan. It is was it is.”
The decision to star in the dreadful Shyamalan project was based on a desire to play against type, though Wahlberg eventually ended up fighting plants with a grudge against mankind.
Wahlberg continued: “F**king trees, man, the plants. F**k it. You can’t blame me for wanting to try to play a science teacher. You know? I wasn’t playing a cop or a crook.”
Wahlberg should be comforted by the fact he was spared the career lows of several actors who starred in Shyamalan’s worst cinematic spillage The Last Airbender.
