Stiller Set to Star in Baumbach’s While We’re Young
Ben Stiller proved a serious acting talent earlier this year playing the lead in dead-pan hit Greenberg. Having forged a close bond with director Noah Baumbach, Stiller is now set to hop on board for his next feature, While We’re Young.
The pair originally had designs on making Mr. Popper’s Penguins, but soon left the project in Jim Carrey’s capable (jazz) hands. Now Vulture are reporting that Stiller is tipped to star in Baumbach’s next big idea, quite possibly alongside Cate Blanchett (schedule allowing), and even James Franco. Baumbach has also extended an offer to Greenberg co-star and indie sensation Greta Gerwig, for the female lead. Having established himself as the master of acutely observed off-beat character pieces, and with a cast of this calibre, Baumbach should have something very promising in store.
The plot itself is still on the DL, but that’s not so tormenting as Baumbach’s films aren’t big on story, it’s about the nuances. Maybe if we dig deeper we could uncover the dirt about Baumbach’s latest nuances. In the mean time make do knowing it’s about a free-spirited, mid twenties couple living in Brooklyn (Franco and Gerwig), who permeate the somewhat stale lives of an uptight documentarian (Stiller) and his wife, inspiring them both to try new things.
Blanchett’s role as the documentarian’s wife was originally intended for Jennifer Jason Leigh, Baumbach’s wife, but since the actress recently filed for a divorce from Baumbach, the arrangement is looking just a tad less likely. Life imitating art? We can only hope Jason Leigh didn’t take her husband’s stale marriage idea too much to heart.
